Olotayan Island is the only island barangay in Roxas City which is known as the “Seafood Capital of the Philipines”. Olotayan is not only famous of its scenic white sand beaches and a relaxing atmosphere was also one of the suppliers of fresh seafood products in Roxas City. Some of these were squids, mussels, clams, crabs and the famous sea orchin and “Diwal” or angel wing shellfish. Big fishes such as Mackerel and Blue Marklin could also be found here. Since electricity does not exist in island, drying is one way of preserving food by the locals. This would be a big help for them to store food for future use. Drying is the widely used method of preservation in the island. This would only require salt and the heat of the sun. The fresh Blue Marlin and the dried squid which are the most demand by the public are the products of the Olotayan locals are proud of. Shellfish and other fish products of Olotayan where seasonal while others are not, but still weather conditions affect their bountiful harvest. Seafood products of Olotayan Island may not be available from time to time, you may check from Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (Roxas City Public Market) where seafood products are available varying in sizes and prices. |
