Island Events
As part of Filipino culture brought by the Spaniards, it’s been a custom for Filipinos of celebrating fiesta in honor to the patron saints in different areas of the Philippines. As part of it, Olotayan Island which composed of four (4) sitios has three (3) different patron saints namely: Sr. Sto. Niño, Our Lady of Fatima, and Sr. San Roque.
The feast of Sr. Sto. Niño is celebrated on the 29th and 30th day of January in Sitio Sawang. Since fishing is the source o fishing in the island, it is believe that the “Prusisyon sa Dagat” would give them a bountiful harvest throughout a year. Where the blessed patron saint is being strolled by a boat is the sea of Olotayan after a high mass in the chapel. May 30-31, was the feast of Our Lady of Fatima in Sitio Look. And for Sr. San Roque, Sitio Putting Balas was celebrating on the 1st week and 3rd week for Sitio Capaculan on the month of August. All of their feast has a “binayle” (disco) where people enjoy dancing at night. |
